When I first learned qigong, I weighed over 400lbs… female doing qigong

As you can imagine, it’s not easy to do anything when you’re carrying that much weight, but I was able to do qigong, and I really loved it right away. I’ve been a student of meditation and visualization for most of my adult life, so when I found qigong, one of the things I loved about it was the addition of physical movements.

With my weight, it was not comfortable for me to sit in meditation for very long. But doing simple movements with my hands and my body, learning to tap into my qi energy—that felt amazing—and was something I could do any time.

Qigong wasn’t just in my head. I was now practicing moving meditation with my hands, my stomach, and my entire body.

I got so excited by the practice that I once spent an entire week with a master teacher named, Madame Wang; and I learned how to feel my own qi, generate and expand that qi, and more than anything, how to cultivate and build my qi energy.

For me, it helped me slow down with eating. It helped me to enjoy and appreciate food in new ways.

And naturally, without force or restriction, it helped me make healthier choices.

I need to be honest: qigong can be a little weird at first. Some of the exercises I’ve learned are a little “out there,” like eating the sun or charging your food energetically; but if you can keep an open mind, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how effective these things simple routines can be.

At my live seminars, I often lead group qigong practices, and so far, everyone I’ve worked with (even the most skeptical) has felt the benefits right away.

After I lost my weight, and after the international success of my book, The Gabriel Method, I was very fortunate to meet a very gifted qigong teacher who again reignited my interest in qigong.
