Ted?

Ted:  

Hello.

Jon:  

Hi, Ted.

Ted:  

Hi, I called in last week and you told me to call back and let you know how my week went.

Kelly:  

How’d it go?

Ted:  

Well, it actually went pretty good. I did everything you suggested. I was listening to the CD at night every night, but I added it during the day, and I’ve actually dropped like six or eight pounds this week.

Kelly:  

Oh wow.

Jon:  

Wow. Ted, that’s great.

Kelly:  

That’s great.

Ted:  

I guess my question is, I need to start exercising. What would be the best thing to do to start getting into some sort of exercise mode?

Jon:  

How much weight, again, are you looking to lose, Ted?

Ted:  

I’m looking to lose about 130 pounds.

Jon:  

Okay. And I can also tell from your breathing a little bit that you also — did we talk about sleep apnea, too? Because I think that would apply to you, too.

Ted:  

No we didn’t.

Jon:  

Okay, but I can tell — get checked for that. What I would suggest you do is maybe three times a week, if you can get on a stationary bike and just spin for 20 minutes, but in that 20 minutes, every once in a while for just 10 seconds, and get your doctor’s approval for this, everyone, in any suggestion I make, but sprint like crazy and visualize you’re being chased by a predator. Because your body doesn’t know the difference between a real and imagined experience. So if you visualize being chased by a predator, your body’s going to create the same chemistry as if you really are. It thinks it’s real. So visualize that for 10 seconds and sprint every once in a while, and that’s going to create the specific stress that’s going to get your body to shift its set point, and then maybe after the 20 minutes of bike, if you do some push-ups or something like that for your upper body. Do that a couple times a week.

What I used to do is, I would wake up, I had a stationary bike, and I would wake up, and before I was even awake I’d just start spinning on it. And after 5 or 10 minutes I’d wake up, and then I’d do my 10 seconds of occasional sprinting and visualizing. And that’s it. Just do that. See how it goes.
Ted:  

Okay, great. I will do that.

Jon:

Ted:
